Purchasing your own stand up paddleboard (SUP) is a big moment. It is not just purchasing equipment, but also purchasing the potential for life changing experiences. I believe stand up paddleboarding and SUP Yoga have become so popular because it is such an enjoyable and direct way for us to reconnect to ourselves and Mother Nature.
I am incredibly passionate about paddleboarding and I have searched high and low to give my students the very best paddling experience they can have. In purchasing a paddleboard that will be used for touring and yoga, here are the qualities I value: VERSATILITY- Can the board move easily between the maneuverability needed for touring and the stability needed for an optimal yoga experience? BUOYANCY- Does the board feel supportive to my weight yet light underfoot? Is it sitting above the waterline? Is the deck pad comfortable and flat? DURABLE- Can the board with stand hitting a stump or rocks underwater? If cared for properly, will the board last me through several seasons or more? FUNCTIONAL- Does the board have the extras that will make my experience seamless, such as enough tie-downs for my life jacket, water bottle, cooler and any thing else I may want to bring? Are there anchor points and a camera mount on my board? Does it have a handle for easier carrying? AESTHETICS- It matters that I like how my paddleboard looks. Afterall, I spend a lot of time on it.
I currently teach from and sell the beautiful Dolsey Glider, pictured in photos above and below, in blue. This board is extremely versatile, buoyant, durable, highly functional and aesthetically pleasing, too! This board retails for $995** Remember, no matter what SUP you purchase, you will get what you pay for. Quality boards provide optimal experiences, where cheaply made boards tend to disappoint.
